Bodey Takes 'Top End' Honda Groms on the Gas

Young 14 year old Phillip Bodey from Kununurra in the East Kimberley region has taken an impressive win in the Northern Territory Round 2 of the Honda Groms on the Gas competition.

Mounted on his YZ85cc machine, Bodey won two of the four point scoring categories on the day with victories in the public speaking and 'On Bike' technique. A solid second placing in the Shuttle Run Fitness Test combined with a fifth fastest time in the 'Lap Time' category gave Bodey the overall on the day by one point.

"The level and sheer numbers of junior riders up here impressed me greatly," said event organiser Lee Hogan. "This is the second round in a row where we have had an 85cc rider win against 125 and 250F machines so we have a couple of awesome riders representing Victoria and Northern Territory later in the year."

The overall winner on the day Phillip Bodey was surprised with his win. "I'm good friends with Dylan Long who won Rd 1 of the Groms in Victoria and we were joking around that it would be cool if I won also," said Body. "We really just travelled across from Kununurra for the experience and to do the riding school but this is unreal! I'm going to be training so hard for the Final Showdown later in the year."

Second place on the day and just one point shy of Phillip Bodey was local Darwin rider Steven Perry. Perry also scored himself two solid victories in the lap time sector and the Shuttle Run Fitness test, but a third and a fifth respectively in the Public Speaking and 'On Bike' Technique dropped him to second place in the overall.

Rounding out the podium for the Northern Territory round was another local rider Jake Paull. Originally from Alice Springs, Paull was impressive with a second placing in the Lap Time sector being his strongest category.

The Competition heads to Newcastle next week for Round 3 at the Cessnock Motocross Club.
